Four in a row as Magpies win at Amman

The Magpies kept up their recent good run of form with their fourth win in a row and their fifth win from six games with a hard fought 10-16 win at Amman United. At a muddy and wind swept Parc Cwmamman it was the home side who took an early lead with an unconverted try after five minutes. Tumble captain Steven Hewitt brought the visitors back within two points with a penalty kick to make the score 5-3 before flanker Gareth Armstrong gave the Magpies the lead with a try. The conversion was missed to give the Magpies a 5-8 lead after 20 minutes. Playing into the wind on a muddy and sticky surface Tumble were struggling to establish their kicking game but held on to go into the break 3-8 up.

Within five minutes of the restart and with the sun poking through the clouds Tumble extended their lead to 5-11 when Hewitt slotted over a penalty goal. The Magpies could not maintain the lead however when a kick through and kind bounce saw Amman through for a try. The conversion attempt however hit the upright to ensure that Tumble maintained the narrowest of leads, 10-11. Twenty minutes into the half busy Magpies scrum half Iwan Morgan dived over for an unconverted try to open up the lead to six points, 10-16, which is how the game ended with no further scoring. The result moves Tumble into eighth position in Division 2 West and above Fishguard and Goodwick RFC who visit Parc y Mynydd Mawr next Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm).
