Magpies fightback claims 2 points but not the win

The Magpies made the trip to Villa Field in Loughor on Saturday afternoon to face old rivals Loughor RFC in National League Division 2 West. Despite a spirited second-half fightback the Magpies could not prevent the home side running out 33-27 victors, but can console themselves somewhat in that they picked up 2 bonus points for their efforts. The first half saw Loughor establish a ten point lead and go into the interval 17-7 ahead, Tumble's points coming from a try and conversion from centre Steffan Price. The second half saw the Magpies come more into the game but for each point they clawed back it seemed the Blues would score enough to keep a sufficient margin in the scoreline. Tries from replacement centre Jac Edwards and replacement prop Callum Williams, who was making his senior debut for the club made the score 27-17 to the home side. Tumble scored their fourth try of the game and picked up a try scoring bonus point when Edwards powered his way over for his second of the game. Price nailed the conversion to make the score 27-24 and put the Magpies in touching distance of claiming the lead. Loughor however extended their lead with a penalty to make the score 30-24 before a penalty from Price brought the score back to within three points, 30-27. With Tumble pressing Loughor were awarded a penalty on the stroke of full-time which they converted to make the score 33-27 and claim the win. Tumble played well during the game and looked sharp behind at times with youngsters Jonny Lloyd and Elis Lewis showing up well. The scrum also performed well during the game and if it hadn't have been for such an organised Loughor defensive effort and some rub of the green when it came to refereeing decisions this could have been a win for Magpies.

With next weekend's game postponed the Magpies now wait until 29th September for their next fixture when they travel to Swansea outfit Mumbles RFC in the first round of the WRU National Plate.
