Loughor comeback sees off Magpies

The Magpies traveled to Loughor RFC looking for another win after defeating Llanybydder a fortnight ago but unfortunately could not prevent the home side wining 19-17 late in the game. On the morning of the match the Magpies were dealt a blow when captain Steven Hewitt withdrew due to illness, forcing the coaching staff into a backline reshuffle. Centre Steffan Price was moved to outside half with Scott Jones moving into the centre, Mike Edwards to full back and Jonathan Lloyd coming in on the wing, flanker Steffan Owen took over the captaincy. Things started off well for Tumble and they were 0-6 up within the first ten minutes from two Price penalties. Price then further increased the Magpies lead to 0-9  six minutes later through a further penalty. It didn't however take the Blues long to get back into the game when they went over for an unconverted try within six minutes with their first incursion into Magpies territory. The score remained at 5-9 until the half time interval.

Tumble extended their lead fifteen minutes into the second half when second row Nathan Willard went over from a catch and drive lineout. The conversion was missed making the score 9-14 to the Magpies. Price added his fourth penalty of the game after 26 minutes to make the score 5-17 to the Magpies but Loughor were now starting to control proceedings with their tight forward play. Within three minutes they were back within five points, 12-17 when they drove over for a converted try. Tumble were now second best with the home side controlling the game and with only six minutes remaining on the clock Loughor scored their third try of the game to make the score 17 all. The conversion was added to give the Blues the lead for the first time in the game (19-17) and this is how the score remained at the final whistle, much to the disappointment of the Tumble players and supporters.

The Magpies now have a week to get over the disappointment of losing this game before they travel to bottom placed Llanybydder RFC for their penultimate away game of the season next Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is at 2.30pm, come and support the boys.
