Gutsy performance fails to halt Whitland

After four weeks of inactivity through the weather and the Six Nations Tumble traveled to the most western point of Carmarthenshire to take on title-challenging Whitland RFC in Division 2 West. Despite a gutsy performance from the Magpies it was the home side who emerged victorious, wining the game 31-15. The Green and Whites took an early lead with a converted try before Tumble captain Steven Hewitt brought the score back to 7-3 with a well taken penalty goal. After 25 minutes Whitland increased their lead with an unconverted try before Magpies winger Sam Jones went over for his ?? try of the season. Hewitt slotted over the conversion to make it 14-10 with 30 minutes on the clock. Unfortunately near half time Whitland scored their third try of the game. The conversion was added to make the score 21-10 at the break.

Within minutes of the restart some slack defensive play from Tumble allowed Whitland in for another try to make the score 28-10 before Magpies number 8 Owain Davies went over for an unconverted try ten minutes later. The score remained the same until late in the game when Whitland kicked a penalty to complete the scoring, 31-15 to the home side. This was a gutsy performance from a Magpies who were missing a number of players through injury and unavailability against a side 23 points ahead of them in the league and with only one defeat all season. The boys now wait two weeks until the 3rd March when they welcome St Clears RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr in what will be a massive game for both sides as they look to secure mid table safety.
