Piod Pinc lose to last minute Morriston penalty

It goes some way to describe how far the Ladies XV have come in the year since they reformed when the players and supporters were left despondent and heartbroken at the final whistle losing 22-25 away against a side which had beaten them 5-52 at Parc y Mynydd Mawr last November. Despite suffering a blow before kick off with the withdrawal through injury of influential number 8 Angharad Williams Tumble took the lead after eight minutes when former Morriston centre Viki Gibbons powered through two would be tackles to score her first try for the club. Morriston hit back after 18 minutes with a try of their own before pacy full back Jess Thomas put Tumble back in the lead with a try that was converted by hooker Hannah Stephens. Morriston scored another try three minutes before half time to make the score 10-12 to the Piod Pinc at the interval.

Ten minutes into the second half Morriston took the lead 15-12 when they scored a well taken try. On the hour mark Jess Thomas crossed for her second try of the game to take Tumble into the lead and this was followed two minutes later by another try when elusive wing Sophie Pick got on the score sheet. The score was now looking good at 15-22 but Tumble couldn't hold on and on 64 minutes Morriston crossed for a converted try which tied the score at 22-22. This is the how the scoreboard remained until on the brink of the final whistle being sounded Morriston were awarded a penalty which they duly converted to win a hard fought and entertaining game 25-22. Some consolation for the girls will be the fact that they earned 2 bonus points from this game and that they are only 3 points behind first placed Morriston in the Division 3 table with the same number of games played.

The girls now have a week to prepare for the visit to Parc y Mynydd Mawr of sixth placed Nantymoel who lost 5-15 at home to Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd on Sunday. Come and support the girls, kick off 2.30pm.
