Magpies have wings clipped by Seagulls

The Magpies welcomed Fishguard & Goodwick RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr on Wednesday night in a rearranged Division 2 West fixture and slipped to a heavy 13-46 defeat after being over run by the Seagulls in the second half. After Saturday's high scoring excursion against Llanybydder Tumble were forced to make a number of changes to the starting line-up due to injury and unavailability. The game started off well enough for Tumble as they were 6-0 up after five minutes through two penalty goals from outside half and captain Steven Hewitt. A minute later Fishguard pulled a converted try back and then took the lead 6-14 after 25 through another converted try. The Seagulls were now on top and where starting to freely make yards through their ball carriers. Against the run of play Tumble pulled a try back on the verge of half time when centre Steffan Price went over under the posts after being put over by midfield partner Iwan Morgan. Hewitt added the conversion to make it 13-14 at the break.

The less said about the second half the better with it only taking Fishguard three minutes to score their first try when their full back sprinted half the length of the field to score under the posts, the conversion was duly added. The Seagulls scored another five further tries in the second half, punishing the Magpies defensive frailties to run up a final score of 13-46.

The boys now have until Saturday to recover and regather themselves before they welcome Amman United RFC to Parc y Mynydd Mawr for what is a massive game in the quest to secure Division 2 West rugby for season 2018-19. Kick-off is at 2.30pm, please come and support the boys.
